Since 2009, Dance Massive has welcomed audiences of over 50,000 to 90 contemporary Australian dance works.
Dance Massive exists as the simultaneous biennial programming of contemporary dance works and associated public and industry events by four Melbourne arts organisations. The Dance Massive consortium: lead producer Arts House, Dancehouse and Malthouse Theatre in association with Ausdance Victoria, have a history of programming contemporary dance works for Melbourne audiences. Dance Massive allows the consortium to share resources, collaborate, promote and celebrate contemporary dance under one banner. It helps us make Australian contemporary dance, massive.
The most recent (fifth) Dance Massive was presented in Melbourne from 14-26 March 2017 and programmed 147 events including 19 seasons of contemporary dance works, alongside industry opportunities and public events. Arts House presented ten works over three venues – North Melbourne Town Hall, Meat Market and an outdoor work at Royal Park.
The next Dance Massive festival will be held from 12 – 24 March 2019.
Arts House curates Dance Massive through on-going conversations with independent artists and organisations.
